Candidate Main-sequence Stars with Debris Disks: a New Sample of Vega-like Sources
نویسندگان
چکیده
Vega-like sources are main-sequence stars that exhibit IR Ñuxes in excess of expectations for stellar photospheres, most likely due to reradiation of stellar emission intercepted by orbiting dust grains. We have identiÐed a large sample of main-sequence stars with possible excess IR radiation by crosscorrelating the Michigan Catalog of Two-dimensional Spectral Types for the HD Stars with the IRAS Faint Source Survey Catalog. Some 60 of these Vega-like sources were not found during previous surveys of the IRAS database, the majority of which employed the lower sensitivity Point Source Catalog. Here, we provide details of our search strategy, together with a preliminary examination of the full sample of Vega-like sources. Subject headings : circumstellar matter È infrared : stars

A search for debris disks in the Herschel-ATLAS *
Aims. We aim to demonstrate that the Herschel-ATLAS (H-ATLAS) is suitable for a blind and unbiased survey for debris disks by identifying candidate debris disks associated with main sequence stars in the initial science demonstration field of the survey. We show that H-ATLAS reveals a population of far-infrared/sub-mm sources that are associated with stars or star-like objects on the SDSS main-...
متن کاملKinematics of Vega-like stars: lifetimes and temporal evolution of circumstellar dust disks
We have used the velocity dispersion as an age indicator to constrain the ages of a large sample of main sequence Vega-like stars in order to study the lifetimes and temporal evolution of the dust disks around them. We use Hipparcos measurements to compute stellar velocities in the sky plane. The velocity dispersion of Vega-like stars is found to be systematically smaller than that of the norma...

متن کاملFirst results from a photometric infrared survey for Vega-like disks around nearby main-sequence stars
We have undertaken a survey for Vega–like disks around nearby main–sequence stars by making photometric measurements with ISOPHOT at four wavelengths between 25 and 180 m. Our goal is to establish how common Vega–like disks are, and how their presence depends on the fundamental properties of main–sequence stars (mass, age, rotation etc.). Here we present first results that concern Vega itself a...
متن کاملDISCOVERY OF A CANDIDATE PROTOPLANETARY DISK AROUND THE EMBEDDED SOURCE IRc9 IN ORION
We report the detection of spatially-extended mid-infrared emission around the luminous embedded star IRc9 in OMC-1, as seen in 8.8, 11.7, and 18.3 μm images obtained with T-ReCS on Gemini South. The extended emission is asymmetric, and the morphology is reminiscent of warm dust disks around other young stars. The putative disk has a radius of roughly 1. 5 (700 AU), and a likely dust mass of al...
